A man was chased by a wild elephant. Quickly he climbed a tall tree. The elephant curled its trunk around the tree and began to shake the tree. The tree would not last! Then he got stung by a bee. He looked up and saw a bee hive with angry bees. What to do? He would surely die!
A ‘deva’ came to his rescue.
As he was about to get rescued, honey dripped down into his mouth, due to the elephant shaking the tree. “Wait, first this honey!”, the man said. But then came another drop, and another. The man kept postponing his rescue.
So the ‘deva’ left.
This Jain story does not tell if it was the elephant or the bees that killed him. Or perhaps it was the honey?
